“I remember Max Baucus advertised he was coming to town on a “listening tour” about the healthcare plan they were trying to get passed. Lots of us had been lobbying for Single Payer and were hoping we’d have a chance to be heard. I was sadly disappointed when I sat in the Tribal Council building in Pablo and Max didn’t even show, and even worse, it wasn’t his staffer listening to us at all. Instead we were informed of what we were going to get. It had already been worked out. I saw the disillusion on the faces of the other people there. One unhappy person asked “how many people here want single-payer?” and almost everyone in the room raised their hands. That was an important day for me as I began to understand some things about politics. Later, Senator Baucus had doctors and nurses arrested rather than allow advocates for universal health care to be heard — it had been deemed “off the table” and that was that.” — Montana voter from Polson
Health care is in the news again as the costs have continued to rise unabated and Republicans threatened to repeal the ACA. Neither of the two political parties in power will advance a single-payer universal health care plan, for the simple reason that insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies, and others who profit from our pain donate big dollars to their campaign funds.
Isn’t it time we demand better? It is possible and the details are right here.
The Montana Green Party supports single-payer universal healthcare. Please join us and let’s get this done.
